About us
Gayatri Memorial Foundation has taken its name in memory of an exceptional woman,
Gayatri Devi. Gayatri was a simple woman full of love and compassion. She belonged
to the lower middle class and has dedicated her life helping others in need. She
has always been kind and generous not only to poor people but also to animals and
thus she is a great inspiration for this foundation.
GMF strongly believes that in order to eradicate poverty, more attention should
be paid to the various factors and processes that can enhance poor people’s ability
to make a living in an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable manner.
In other words, access to sustainable income earning opportunities should be given
to the less privileged groups enriching in that way their livelihood. All citizens
should be able to break free from their past, develop an alternative vision of their
future and set achievable goals. Therefore, especially poor people should be equipped
with the technical, organizational, negotiating, and networking skills that will
facilitate the fulfillment of their goals. Our aim is to stimulate and support these
people to have a better quality of life and stimulate their sense of agency as they
endeavor to increase their income, to improve access to services or to claim rights
and entitlements. The intention of the organization is to raise awareness about
the importance of education, environment and health care among the less advantaged
groups and to promote self-employment and organization of rural poor, concentrating
on women empowerment programs and skill training courses. The basic idea behind
our work is to organize the poor into SHG (Self Help Groups) groups and make them
capable for self-employment.

What we do :-
The Foundation has undertaken a multi-faceted approach through its social initiatives.
These approaches have been primarily focused on ‘community development’ in the states
of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. We are committed to undertake various
programs and activities targeting the marginalized segments of the society irrespective
of their caste, creed, age, sex, color and religion, in rural, urban and tribal
areas. We aim for the social, economic and educational uplift of these groups. For
that reason, we develop and conduct orientation activities. Our earnings are re-invested
in building capacities for creating a firm foundation of including the critical
mass within the broader socio-economic, local, national and global context.
Moreover, we coordinate and offer relevant training (including entrepreneurship)
to artisans’ and farmers’ children. In that way we help them to set up self-employment
ventures, to upgrade their current tools and techniques and to gain access to e-commerce.
